Prehospital POCUS

Lead the way in transformative care with POCUS

POCUS is transforming prehospital care, and EMS is at the forefront of this revolution. With no other diagnostic imaging available in the field, POCUS is a game-changer for ambulance teams. Our EMS-focused POCUS course equips you with the skills to enhance patient outcomes through rapid, accurate diagnosis and improved decision-making on the go.

This one-day course will give EMS providers the tools to expertly perform POCUS in the field.

Topics covered:

Physics and Knobology: Every introductory course requires a basic understanding of ultrasound physics and functioning of the ultrasound machine.

E-FAST (Extended Focused Assessment in Sonography for Trauma): In the trauma patient, rapidly assess if there is bleeding into the peritoneum. This will assist the receiving hospital to prioritize care for a potentially critically ill patient. It can also facilitate the decision to take a patient to a trauma center.

Lung Ultrasound: It is very difficult to properly evaluate breath sounds in an ambulance. In a trauma patient, POCUS can determine if a pneumothorax is present and will assist in determining which patients do and do not need needle decompression.

POCUS in cardiac arrest: This topic will cover a number of indications for POCUS in cardiac arrest that will immediately change management

  • Cardiac POCUS to determine PEA vs pseudo-PEA. This determines whether patients need epinephrine or IV fluids/blood.
  • POCUS for ventricular fibrillation. Not always clear on the monitor, POCUS can be used to determine vfib s defibrillation can be performed
  • POCUS for pulse checks. Interrogate the femoral artery or the carotid artery to determine if a pulse is present.

Vascular access: Learn how to insert IVs using  ultraasound guidance. This section utilizes phantom gel models to practice

Cost: $2950 for up to 5 learners, $1950 for each additional group of up to 5  learners.

Vascular access models included in price.
